A video which shows a clip from YouTuber and Times Now Navbharat journalist Sushant Sinha's podcast, 'Top Angle with Sushant Sinha' with former spy and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent
Lucky Bisht as his guest is being shared on social media platforms.
The claim: The video is being shared to claim that it shows Sinha and Bisht discussing the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives on 22 April.
In the clip, Sinha can be heard calling Pakistan a "more powerful nation," and Bisht saying that the Pakistani Army is fearsome and that Indian soldiers "hope to never get caught" by them.
The latter goes on to discuss Rafale fighter jets that were allegedly downed by Pakistan's Chinese-made PL-15 missiles.
(Archived versions of more posts sharing this clip can be seen here, here, and here.)
Is it true?: No, the clip has been altered using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is a deepfake.
How did we find out the truth?: We ran a reverse image search on the clip, which led us to the full version of the podcast on Sinha's YouTube channel.
This video was uploaded on 8 November 2024, predating the terrorist attack by over five months.
During the podcast, the two discuss gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Bisht talks about the might of India's special forces and agents, talking about how widespread their presence is and how highly trained they are, before going on to talk about Sikhs for
Justice (SFJ) leader and Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
They also go on to discuss Bisht's time as a National Security Guard (NSG) commando and his career as a sniper, while Bisht gave details about what it was like working as a spy.
Is it AI?: When we observed the video, we noticed that at several points through the conversation, neither Bisht's nor Sinha's lip movements matched the words coming out of their mouths.
To verify whether the video was altered using AI, we ran it through Hive Moderation's AI generated content detection tool.
Its analysis gave the video an aggregate score of 99.9 percent, saying that the video "is likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content" for the audio element.
Conclusion: A deepfake of a podcast with Sushant Sinha and Lucky Bisht is being widely shared to claim that they spoke about the Pahalgam terror attack and spoke highly of Pakistan and the
Pakistani Army.
