Port depot gets $125m faceliftTim SlaterKalgoorlie MinerThu, 22 November 2012 12:55PMShare to FacebookShare to XEmail UsCopy the Link The $125 million upgrade of the Esperance rail depot was
officially opened by QR National managing director Lance Hockridge on Monday.
The upgrade includes a new wagon maintenance facility, locomotive maintenance facility, the installation of a turntable for locomotives, a new and upgraded track, a warehouse and shunting
facilities.
Mr Hockridge said the opening of the upgraded depot indicated rapid and exciting growth for QR National and its principal customer in the region, Cliffs Natural Resources.
“We have invested heavily in boosting capacity at Esperance by increasing local jobs and, as one of largest employers in the region, we are very aware of our responsibilities as a corporate
citizen,” Mr Hockridge said.
QR National is one of the largest employers in Esperance, with 115 employees living and working in the town.
“This depot upgrade is not just about ramping up capacity for our customers, but about doing things smarter,” he said.
