http://66.225.205.104/JR20091210a.mp3 Charlotte-based Hendrick Automotive Group has agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement of a class-action lawsuit with customers who claim they were
ripped off by the dealership. WFAE's Julie Rose reports: Just about any big purchase these days seems to come with a last-minute offer for something extra - a warranty or a repair
package or, in the case of Hendrick auto dealers, a coating that is supposed to protect the inside and outside of your new ride. But some of Hendrick's customers say they were misled
about that product and overcharged. One plaintiff in the lawsuit says he paid $740 for the treatment on a new Acura when the actual cost to the dealer was only $35. Hendrick Automotive Group
denies the allegations, but has agreed to pay more than $4 million to some 20,000 customers who bought or leased cars between November of 2000 and November 2004. The settlement applies to
30 Hendrick dealerships in North Carolina, including eleven in the Charlotte region. Customers who qualify for the settlement will automatically receive a check for $195 unless they opt-out
by January 15th. A Union County Superior Court judge will decide whether to approve the settlement at a hearing on February 5th.
