A Charlotte man has been sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the shooting death of a 22-year-old man in 2016. According to a statement released by Mecklenburg County District Attorney

Spencer Merriweather, a jury found Montdrekus Moore, 25, guilty of the murder of Christian Alfredo Soto Mojica in November 2016. Merriweather said Mojica had tried to calm an altercation

that occurred in a Charlotte apartment between Moore, a woman Moore was dating at the time and the woman’s daughter. The daughter had confided in Mojica about problems she was having with

Moore, and he had offered her a place to stay. According to Merriweather, Mojica and the daughter were walking away from the apartment on The Plaza in Charlotte when Moore pulled up

alongside them in his car. He stepped out of his car and fired one shot, hitting Mojica in the neck. Mojica was pronounced dead at the scene, and Moore was arrested the following morning.

Moore has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. _STAY INFORMED: Sign up for The Frequency newsletter and get WFAE headlines in your inbox every weekday._
