CLAIMED 16:38, 29 May 2025Updated 17:08, 29 May 2025 The Liverpool parade driver suspect being questioned by the police is a former Royal Marine, a friend has reportedly claimed. According


to sources speaking to the Mail, the 53-year-old suspect "panicked" when his car was surrounded by Liverpool supporters during the chaos that erupted earlier this week. "He


was trying to get out of the parade and he has panicked," the pal told the publication. They added: "I believe he was doing someone a favour and dropping his wife's friend and


her daughter off for an appointment. He has had the window smashed, people were trying to get into the car, he has had his throat grabbed and he has panicked." It was earlier disclosed


that the driver of a Ford Galaxy, which crashed into crowds of football fans around 6pm on Monday - injuring 79 people - had followed an ambulance through a road block, allowing him to


access Water Street, which was pedestrian-only for the event. Article continues below Police confirmed that a total of 79 people were injured as a result of the incident. It has since come


to light that the youngest victim was just nine-years-old. Seven people remain in hospital but are said to be stable and recovering. A 53-year-old man is currently being questioned by police


on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and driving while under the influence of drugs. Article continues below The investigation team were granted more time on Wednesday to


continue questioning the suspect in police custody and continue to do so today. The police have also responded to further questions about the roadblocks and diversions that were in place in


the vicinity of the incident on Monday, including in Dale Street, which was revealed was the route travelled along by the Ford Galaxy Car before it moved onto Water Street and ploughed into


the crowds of people. The police confirmed that there was a partial closure of an area of Dale Street between North John Street and Exchange Street East and said traffic was filtered down


the latter road to stop any traffic getting on to Water Street.
