THEY HOPE TO BE MORTGAGE-FREE AHEAD OF AN IMPORTANT DATE NICHOLAS DAWSON 06:41, 05 Jun 2025 A couple from Solihull have been using a shopping app to help reduce the term of their mortgage by
10 years. Ellie Boyle, 36, is determined to be mortgage-free by her 40th birthday, and is using the Sprive app to get cash rewards from her shopping to go towards overpaying the debt.
Together with her husband Colin, they make frequent overpayments on their mortgage, getting some 50p for each transaction, contributing an extra £40 to £50 monthly towards paying off their
mortgage. The Sprive app offers customers cashback rewards when they spend at various retailers and stores, which can then be allocated directly to mortgage repayments. The couple are on a
mission to reduce their mortgage term significantly, making total overpayments of around £2,000 each month. Ellie taps into the benefits of the app for her trips to Tesco and Morrisons,
while Colin earns rewards from his twice-daily Uber journeys to and from work. They've enjoyed the advantages of Sprive for about a year and a half. Ellie said: "It is nice and
easy. All the accounts are all connected, even when buying any of the giftcards through Sprive, all the bank accounts are connected so it's a fairly straightforward process once
it's set up." Article continues below There's a particular reason that they are keen to finish with their mortgage; Colin has retinitis pigmentosa, a progressive eye
condition, making financial security a priority for their future. He works as a maths teacher but is registered blind and anticipates having to leave his current job in the next few years.
Ellie shared: "That's the main driver for wanting to pay off the mortgage, it's so we don't have an additional bill round our heads when that time does come. "Then
we've got a little bit more freedom and flexibility, the only thing we need to support are the bills then and any other outgoings." Article continues below In 2013, Ellie and Colin
purchased their first property with a £145,000 mortgage and then moved in 2018, with their mortgage increasing to £202,000. They also took out a £35,000 loan for a loft conversion. Sprive
provides cash rewards from leading brands like Greggs, Amazon, M&S, Caffe Nero, and Airbnb. Another customer of Sprive previously revealed how they were managing to shave around £2,500
per month off their mortgage as well as slashing three years off the mortgage term, all thanks to the app. You can also get help with remortgaging through Sprive, with expert advice
available to help users in choosing the best deal. Other big name brands where Sprive can be used include Deliveroo, Halfords, IKEA, and Asda.
